While I was a mentee, I am also currently working in the industry as a storyboarder; but I really wanted to get this across whether it ends up published or not. I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for the kindness of the mentors who have given so much of their precious time and energy in the context of this initiative.

My mentor was Carrie Liao and not only was I humbled by the sheer amount of talent that she has, she was also a genuinely modest, curious and invested person. You could really feel that she was committed to the cause on top of staying authentic. Her feedback was not only constructive, but also completely on point and relevant through and through. My gratitude and respect is only further heightened by my understanding of the fact that all of the mentors still had their full-time jobs and responsibilities on top of contending with the incredibly difficult climate of the pandemic that was wreaking havoc in the US. I honestly wish her and all of the mentors who have made such a gift of their time and energy all the best along with my heartfelt thanks.Stay safe and happy!

My name is Ahmad Jamal, I’m from Kuwait. Around a year ago I started my Animation  journey and I’ve learned so much since then.

After hearing about RUA, I signed up for animation feedback, and I was fortunate enough to have met Becky Bresse as my RUA Mentor. After our first meeting, which was very delightful, we kept in contact with each other. Becky always sends me job openings  and we talk from time to time, if I had any questions about animation or about a specific shot that I’m working, she’s always happy to help out and offers additional feedback. This opportunity to connect me with Becky is amazing, and I can’t thank RUA enough.

I remember wanting to change careers from restaurants to animation. I had no clue how that was going to work. I spoke with a friend who told me to join Rise Up Animation. This was the best advice that anyone has given me. There I met Monica Lago-Kaytis. After our first meeting, I knew I had scored on a mentor. She helped me get into Kidscreen, stayed in touch, prepared me for interviews and helped me fix my resume. What was so outstanding to me was that the help was given by another woman of color. I am so grateful to Rise Up Animation and Monica for helping people of color see that they can make a difference in the world of animation. That we belong. I am currently an EA at Nickelodeon! Besides my boss, I am the only brown person in the room. I will make RUA proud!

I’ve attended dozens of RUA panels and have had quite a few rounds of mentoring sessions through Rise Up. I’ve been able to make some long-lasting connections, and have communication with industry professionals. The Rise Up Mentorship program is so helpful for students and emerging creatives to learn more about the industry, ask questions in a safe space, and get to know more people working in animation. Thanks so much to the Rise Up Animation leadership, volunteers and community for all you’ve done, it’s helped me learn and grow so much in just a year!

Hi i’m Chen i’m from Israel and my dream and passion is Character Design.

I got to meet RUA by a chance with Disney for one week. I would wake up every morning in 3am just to listen and absorb as much as I can. I had 3 feedbacks so far with three amazing mentors, my first time was with Monica Lago-Kaytis, the second one was with Alisha Gibson and the third one was with Daniel Lopez Munoz. I am thankful to RUA and to those mentors that volunteer from their own time to help mentees like us to make our dream come true. I want to thank each of the mentors that helped me especially Daniel Lopez Munoz who still help me to get better!

Since my feedback my work got better and I learnt a lot and I work ten times harder to make my way to the Animation industry. I suggested RUA to every friend I have that wants to be part of the Animation industry, and I have no regrets. I want to thank all the amazing people who started this in the first place, you give me hope, you made me better, you guys deserve so much that it’s amazing! All the panels, all the talks, all the events, are just a way to help and push forward and i have not enough words to describe how thankful i am to all of you. I wish RUA will stay forever, and one day maybe to help someone like me who needed guide to this beautiful universe of animation!

Congratulations for amazing year and i wish you many beautiful years like that!

Happy 1st anniversary! I’m so grateful to be a part of this community. Rise Up Animation has been such a light through the uncertainty of the pandemic. I’ve met so many cool new friends who I’m able to collaborate with and grow as a creative in the animation field. I’ve met my amazing mentor Emily who has been extraordinary in helping me make tough career decisions. The panels were also so encouraging and really opened my eyes to the possibilities of this industry. I can’t wait to keep growing and contributing to this community.
